The book begins with the sentimentality of the things we treasure as children and with naïve clarity Klara narrates over her world. Artificial intelligence will learn human emotion and this book shows the sensitivities required for such an undertaking.

As the story progresses it reverse engineers emotive artificial intelligence and presents it through a protagonist who passively narrates about themselves. This is reminiscent of Ken Casey’s one flew over the cuckoos nest, with Klara taking on the role of chief.
Character development is excellent. The setting of the unspectacular future grants the reader escapism to a Hegelian dialect of a human-machine synthesis. Can machines monitor humans emotions and assist with informed decision making?

Classicism & Futurism
The writing style is impressive with the novel portraying emotions in a wonderfully constructed modern suburbia. Exposing a traditional vibe of classicism, elegance and referred to as being ‘lifted’ Throughout the book the author uses language which is vivid and expresses sentiment clearly.
The novel at times drops into Kafka esq escapism and this blends nicely into the overall solution which is ambiguously eluded to by Klara. Many episodes in the story require the reader to engage and the author masterfully follows up with eloquent answers.
In this book Klara brings us into contact with the future, the book is a wonderful anthropomorphism of AI into our fragile emotional lives. The voice assistant in today’s homes contains the potential to offer emotional support services once there is computation improvement in the EQ IQ of AI.
