Qubes: Install Daedalus Wallet

Qubes: Daedalus Crypto Wallet

Daedalus Wallet is a full node crypto wallet created by Cardano ADA, it can validate its own transactions providing a secure way to use and stake ADA

When using Qubes the wallet can be installed inside its own standalone AppVM, where no other part of the computer can access it, isolated, containerized. The terminal is used to download and install the bin file, and then the AppVM qubes settings page it can be added to the drop downs for that AppVM

Qubes: AppVM Daedalus Installation

Here is a guide of how to create a dedicated AppVM for the Daedalus ADA crypto wallet. This will provide increased security by preventing all other processes running on the computer from interacting with the wallet, using the Qubes methodology of Security in Compartmentalization

This AppVM will be based on the Debian Template and will be created as a standalone AppVM and will become a full node crypto currency wallet for transacting ADA securely whilst validating its own transactions

Setup AppVM

The main menu in Qubes is accessed via the blue Q in the top right hand corner when using the XFCE interface, this will bring a number of options and towards the bottom chooses the Qubes Tools option and then select Create Qubes VM

Configure the AppVM to use Debian, give it an name and color, set the type to StandaloneVM (fully persistent) and click on OK

This will create a dedicated AppVM for running the Daedalus Wallet This will provide a high level of isolation and a reasonably secure way to run a full node wallet on the Cardano network

Now when clicking the Q in the top left corner there should now be an option for  Qube: Stephen or the name specified in the Name and label option when creating the AppVM, on the next dropdown select Stephen: Terminal and now run the following commands:

1// Download the daedalus wallet bin

2// Make the file excutable

3// Run the file

This should now take a few minutes to install and once complete it should finish by showing the daedalus-mainnet.desktop

In the Qube Settings for the AppVM from the Applications tab the daedalus wallet should appear, there is also a button to refresh the applications list. Once available it can be moved to the right hand column and made available from the dropdown menu found via the Q in the top left corner

Once installed the final step is to increase the storage space to 25GB, that can be done in the Qube Settings, increasing the private and system storage max size. Once this has been done then a new wallet can be created or dadealus / yoroi wallet restored
